Made in Vancouver is a collaboration between Vancity and Daily Hive. Together, we focus on local companies, organizations and individuals who help create a healthy local economy.
Based in North Vancouver, Larry’s Market is a healthy grocery store offering free delivery in 60 minutes.
Vancity has supported people in our community since 1946. As part of our Made in Vancouver series, which focuses on local businesses, we spoke with Ryan Dennis, co-owner of Larry’s Market, about what makes his vegetarian grocery store so special. Ryan Dennis and his wife had always dreamed of opening a healthy grocery store.
When his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, the two decided to make their dream come true by opening a vegetarian grocery store in the shipyard district of Lower Lonsdale.
Instead of limiting himself to a grocery store, Dennis incorporated a cafe into the store, where he recruited chef Brian Skinner of The Acorn, who developed a wonderful vegetarian menu of coffee, matcha drinks, smoothies, kombucha smoothies, wraps, pizzas, burgers, pastries, and more.
Larry’s Market also has an incredible delicacy that serves some vegan food. Dennis explained that one of their best-selling delicacies is a chickpea “tuna,” which “interests the flexitarians.”
However, Dennis does not stop at just one grocery store and cafe. He hopes to have Larry’s Market on every busy corner in every busy city.
“That means healthy plant-based food will be available everywhere !,” he told the Daily Hive.
Larry’s Market is currently open for personal shopping as well as online shopping.
The market also supplies 60-minute groceries for shoppers in northern and western Vancouver and 90 minutes for those in Vancouver. Delivery is always free.
Those interested in visiting Larry’s Market can do so at the 140-125 Victory Ship Way in North Vancouver from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
