VANCOUVER, B.C.:  Wednesday, June 22. Today’s weather is expected to start out cloudy with a slight chance of showers this morning and then become a mix of sun and cloud near noon, with wind and a high of 18 C, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Overnight, it looks partly cloudy, with wind, and a low of 13 C and then Thursday should be sunny, with highs of 18 C and 22 C inland. The federal weather agency has posted a special weather statement for heat, saying the first hot stretch of the summer is expected Friday through Tuesday for the South Coast. Daytime highs in the low 30s are expected with overnight lows down to the mid-teens.

With elevated temperatures, the agency warns the risk of heat related illnesses increase. It also means freezing levels rise, leading to an increase in snowmelt and snowpack instability. Increased stream flows due to run-off are possible.

Although heat is expected, bodies of water still remain cool for this time of year and may pose a risk of hypothermia when exposed to cold water for a prolonged period of time, the agency warns.

On Friday, expect sunshine and highs of 22 C and 26 C inland. Clear skies continue on the weekend, with temperatures reaching as high as 31 C inland on Sunday. Monday looks sunny again with highs of 25 C and 30 C inland.
