A Swiss winter village is coming to Canberra and they had us at schnapps and s’mores

Posted on

Visit a snow-filled Swiss winter village this July without leaving town—Canberra Centre’s Winter Village will quite literally be making it snow from 1 to 17 July.

Did we mention there’ll be schnapps and s’mores?

Located inside the centre near the City Walk entrance, the village will bring a cosy Swiss alpine town to life, creating a winter wonderland for children and adults alike, just in time for the school holidays.

It will play host to a range of workshops, activations and activities for all ages including mulled wine infused with spices from Gewürzhaus and gourmet Swiss chocolate s’mores, Swiss cheese tasting, gingerbread decorating, candle and wreath making, and more!

The activation will feature alpine trees adorned with fairy lights, cosy fireplaces, winter village photo moments, and real-life snow. There will also be an incredible virtual reality experience that will instantly transport visitors to the serene surrounds of the Swiss alps.

“We’re so thrilled to be bringing such an enchanting and interactive activation to life within the Centre,” Canberra Centre General Manager, Gary Stewart, said.

“Whether it’s cosying up with a hot cup of mulled wine, getting lost in the snow-filled Swiss alps through our virtual reality experience or crafting a quintessential winter wreath or candle, there’s something for all ages.”

“In even more exciting news, anyone who visits the Winter Village throughout its time in the centre will go into the draw to win a Swiss holiday for two, valued at $12,000.”

The holiday comprises two seats on the renowned Winter Magic Train Tour, journeying through Switzerland for eight days, inclusive of return economy airfares. Entry to the competition can be made via the QR codes on display throughout the Winter Village.

The activation will align with the City Renewal Authority’s Winter in the City experience, which will see the nearby Civic Square turn into an open-air ice-skating arena from 1–17 July .

“It’s no secret Canberra gets incredibly cold in winter, so this year we really wanted to embrace the chill and bring a little piece of Swiss winter paradise to the heart of Canberra,” Mr Stewart said.
