An Australian footballer was arrested for groping a woman on a dance floor at a hotel in Chelsea and then attacking his furious friend who intervened, police said.
Jordan De Goey, a 25-year-old striker for the Collingwood AFL in Melbourne who has previously been charged with assault in Australia, was caught after he and an Australian colleague fumbled for a 35-year-old woman whom they snuck up on. while dancing at a rooftop bar at the Dream Hotel on West 16th Street around 2:20 a.m., police said.
The famle disturbed the woman’s male friend, who confronted the 6-foot-3, 194-pound De Goey and Goey’s friend, Luke Dyson, 28.
De Goey and Dyson allegedly hit the man, 37, in the face with a bottle, beating and kicking him, according to the NYPD.
De Goey and Dyson, who lived at the hotel, were both charged with coercion and assault, police said.
The victims, who also stayed at the hotel, were visiting from Cambridge, Ma. They refused medical treatment.
In 2018, De Goey was hit by a charge of indecent assault stemming from an alleged incident in 2015. But in August, the charges were dropped and police were sentenced to pay the athlete’s attorney’s fees.
Collingswood said it is aware of the situation but has not yet been in contact with De Goey, according to The ABC.
“The club is trying to contact Jordan, who is in the United States, to establish the facts of the case,” a spokesman for the club said.
“The club will not be able to comment further until it has done so.”
