Darren McMullen reveals it was ‘tough’ going up against Benji Marshall

While Darren McMullen finished Celebrity Apprentice Australia as the runner-up, the TV host still raised an incredible $ 172,617 for his charity Feel the Magic.

This huge sum, which combined with the Challenges he won throughout the show, added up to over $ 500,000.

Despite not taking out the win in the final task, Darren was still happy with the outcome.

“I was not disappointed … I feel like we both kind of won. And I think me and Benji were super close buddies so we were both really happy for each other,” he exclusively told 9Entertainment.

“I was in there with my brother, Benji, and I was so happy for him that he won. I thought that was great and all our charities with the money … it’s just an insane amount of money.”

Throughout their time on the show, Darren and Benji’s bromance blossomed, but that’s not to say they were going to go easy on each other.

“We’re both very competitive,” he admitted.

“It was tough going up against him but more just because we wanted to work together and raise a bunch of cash.”

“We spoke to each other early on in the show and said listen, ‘If one of us gets knocked out and one of us gets to the final, we’ll come back and we’ll help each other out’. So I guess the only downside is we never really got to work together. “

Darren was stoked with the money he raised for his charity Feel the Magic, but revealed that not many people knew about it.

“It’s absolutely incredible money. They’re the only charity in Australia that looks after grieving children, and one in 20 kids have lost a parent,” he said.

“So many people watching the show it’s a lot of exposure for people that did not know this was out there and an option for their kids.

“I’ve had lots of people kind of slide into my DM’s [direct message] and say, ‘Hey, I never knew about this. This is amazing, how do I become one of the volunteers? I would love to help this charity ‘, which is great. “

During the final challenge Darren hosted a VIP event on Cockatoo Island, with the help of fellow star Carla from Bankstown.
