Glastonbury festival-goers “may need to take shelter if they can” with thunderstorms expected to sweep across much of southern England, the Met Office has warned.

The spell of warm weather is set to end today with thunder and lightning forecast across southern England, East Anglia, the Midlands and eastern Wales. The Met Office issued a yellow warning from 10am until midnight with storms expected to break out this afternoon and early evening.

Meteorologists are predicting gusty winds, torrential downpours and hail, with some places having up to 60mm of rain in a few hours, creating a small chance of flooding.
