WASHINGTON (WDVM) – 40% of highway deaths on Halloween involve disabled motorists, and having a safe plan to get home can turn your magical night into a tragic night.
“Every drink-driving fatalities accident and arrest can be 100 percent preventable,” said Kurt Erickson, president of the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.
The organization’s SoberRide program will put $ 15 dollars into your Lift ride from 6 p.m. 22.00 Saturday to kl. 4 a.m. Sunday through most of the subway, including DC, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Arlington County, Prince William County, Loudoun County and Fairfax County.
“You really need to have a safety net in place that protects us all. Not just to give a ride to the potential drunk driver, but also to make the roads safer for everyone on the roads of this area,” Erickson said.
SoberRide is a convenient option, but not the only option to get home safely this Halloween weekend.
“Please, at least plan your exit strategy. Spend the night, use public transport, change different modes of transport, use a designated sober driver, do whatever it takes to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking,” he said. Erickson.
