A serious incident on the M62 has caused long queues in traffic.
Police closed the M62 between J9 and J8 in Cheshire around 7am after a ‘serious incident’.
Large queues have now arisen on the carriageway in a westerly direction.

Drivers have been urged to find an alternative route, if possible, by North West Motorway Police, who are leading the incident.
Road users are advised to follow the Solid Diamond diversion signs, which instruct them to leave the M62 at the J9, at the M62 J9 / A49 roundabout take the first exit and follow the A49 (southbound).
Then at the A49 / A574 roundabout take the third exit and follow the A574 (westbound), at the A574 / Westbrook Way roundabout take the second exit and follow the Westbrook Way (westbound), at the Westbrook Way / Burtonwood Road roundabout take the fourth exit and follows the Burtonwood Way. (northbound), at the Burtonwood Way / M62 J8 take the first exit and undo the M62 again (westbound).
Driving users on the M62 westbound have reported being stuck in long queues for over an hour on the road.
National Highways said the lane will remain closed for ‘several hours’ while the North West Motorway Police investigation takes place.
