Katy Perry waitress argument: Why the singer was so desperate to get a seat

The Queensland waitress who argued with Katy Perry over a café table has revealed details of her embarrassing encounter with the pop superstar.

Indianna Paull went viral on TikTok earlier this week after revealing she had served the American singer, 37, while working at a café in Port Douglas on Saturday.

Indianna, who did not recognise Katy beneath her hat and sunglasses, told the Roar hitmaker she would have to wait until a table became available.

Discussing the encounter on Sunrise on Thursday, Indianna clarified that Katy wasn’t acting like a diva and actually had a good reason for wanting the first available table.

‘Looking back on it, the reason she wanted to get inside [the café] was because people were taking photos of her,’ she told co-hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch.

‘I was so oblivious, running around like a headless chook, I had no idea!’ she laughed.

Indianna praised Katy for acting ‘normal’ and taking the rejection ‘like a champ’ instead of throwing a tantrum.

‘I think partly why I didn’t recognise her was that she was just so relaxed and chill about it,’ she explained.

‘She didn’t have that appearance about her to make her seem like she was worried for waiting for a table… She handled it like a champ.’

After initially telling her she’d have to wait for a seat, Indianna agreed to give Katy a table that wasn’t meant for customers – before scolding her for breaking the rules.

‘I was walking over and made a fool of myself and said, “Just for future, know that we can’t seat people in this table,”‘ she recounted.

Indianna said she was mortified moments later when someone told her the customer she’d just chastised was none other than Katy Perry.

‘I felt like a fool and went over to apologise. I was a bit shocked that I acted like [she was] a casual Joe Blow… and I can believe how nice she was,’ she said.

Indianna then revealed Katy left a ‘generous’ tip when she left the café, but refused to specify the exact amount.

‘More than the usual $2 we get thrown in the bucket!’ she laughed.

In the video, she said the I Kissed a Girl Star initially ‘argued’ with her over the lack of tables, but later thanked her with a generous tip for treating her like a ‘normal person’.

‘When you are the first dumb oblivious b***h to tell Katy Perry she has to wait for a table,’ she wrote.
