Carabao Cup draw
They have just completed the Carabao Cup draw and they have not met City for the first time in five years. This is what the quarterfinals look like:
- Spurs against West Ham
- Arsenal against Sunderland
- Brentford vs. Chelsea
- Liverpool vs. Leicester
If City had won the penalty shootout, they would have had a trip to Arsenal as the ball numbers were determined in alphabetical order.
Perhaps more importantly, City will quietly rejoice that Chelsea and Liverpool have been kept separate, increasing their chances of both getting involved in a two-legged semi-final in January, with City having two weeks off.
City’s two Christmas opponents – Leicester and Brentford – also have difficult ties this week directly before meeting the Blues, while City will go into these matches with more time to prepare.
Should City not be involved, the draw has landed pretty much perfect for their Christmas and New Year matches.
