Manchester United will be looking for the ideal answer to last Sunday’s 5-0 hammer blow in the hands of Liverpool as they travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Spurs on Saturday afternoon.
United, who have only won one of their last three meetings with the North London outfit, were no match for their historic rivals at Old Trafford last weekend, meaning their unbeaten run in the Premier League was extended to four matches.
This week, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been under enormous pressure, but has been given the opportunity to rectify things, but he knows that he and his players will have to jump back and deliver an inch-perfect performance and result against Nuno Espirito Santos’ troops. .
Fortunately, United’s prospects of getting back on track have been bolstered by Raphael Varane’s return from injury, meaning he will return to the starting line-up and partner either Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire as central defender.
Elsewhere, Anthony Martial is also available for selection, meaning suspended Paul Pogba is United’s only absent.
But how do United fans want to see Solskjær line up against Spurs? MEN Sports has taken a closer look at what United fans have voted for using our interactive widget.
Goalkeeper – David de Gea
Despite all of United’s current problems, there is no discussion about who will line up in the goal against Tottenham, with fans demanding that David de Gea continue between the posts.
Although he has only kept a clean sheet during this period, the Spaniard has been in excellent form and has produced a number of fine saves lately.
Defense – Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw
With Varane now back available for selection, it is highly likely that United will make at least one change to the defensive line that was torn to pieces by Liverpool last weekend.
The summer purchase from Real Madrid will probably replace either Lindelof or Maguire as central defense, although the two would be lucky to avoid the cut.
But fans are only hoping to see a change to the four backs, with Varane replacing Lindelof. They may require more changes, but a lack of depth in certain positions may have prevented them from requiring more changes.
Midfield – Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard, Bruno Fernandes
It is United’s midfield that has attracted a lot of debate so far this season, and it can be guaranteed that no matter what Solskjær chooses against Spurs, it will only generate more.
United fans have called for change ahead of the trip south, so much so that they want to see two forgotten names come into play, in the form of both Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard. The duo have been fighting for opportunities so far this season and fans now want to see them awarded a chance alongside Bruno Fernandes in what would be a very attacking midfield tree.
Fans’ desire to see Van de Beek and Lingard start would mean that both Scott McTominay and Fred would drop out.
Attack – Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford
Although Mason Greenwood started the season in a rich form, his performances have recently lacked a touch of excitement, meaning fans are demanding a change on the right wing against Spurs.
Fans want to see Jadon Sancho return and secure just his fourth Premier League start of the season on the right wing. Fans, however, want to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford retain their seats, meaning they hope to see a front three of Sancho, Ronaldo and Rashford for the first time.
The starting line-up United fans will see against Tottenham: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Van de Beek, Lingard, Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford.
