An Olympian has opened a brand new Aldi store in Harringay.
Team GB Bronze Hockey medalist Sally Walton cut the red ribbon in the store in Green Lanes, which opened its doors on Friday at. 8.00.
To celebrate, she gave away free bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 series to the first 30 customers in the queue.
She will also provide an inspiring virtual collection for students at Woodberry Down Community Primary School after the semester in October as part of the supermarket’s initiative, Get Set to Eat Fresh.
The new store will be run by store manager Fabio Belinghieri along with a team of 50 community colleagues.
Sir. Belinghieri said: “It has been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Harringay. It was great to welcome our new customers to the store and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks. I am also excited that we are able to support Woodberry Down Community Primary School through our partnership with Team GB. ”
Team GB hero Sally Walton added: “I had a great time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honor to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time.”
“I look forward to talking to the children at Woodberry Down Community Primary School about the importance of eating healthy and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family. Hopefully I will inspire students to stay active and try different sports. ”
The new Aldi store also encourages local charities and food banks in Harringay to sign up with Neighborly, a community engagement platform that connects businesses with community charities.
Local charities that sign up will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruits, vegetables and baked goods, up to seven days a week.
All charities in the area that would like to partner with the new Aldi store should send an email to email@example.com.
