Applications close in mid-November and the program runs online and in person from January to May 2022.

Through the program, industry mentors will support participants in producing professional footage of their work as well as an online promotional portfolio complete with professional photography and video.

Participants will also receive guidance on industry best practices in processes such as obtaining advertising and booking concerts. The First Impressions program culminates with a live performance at a participating event at a venue in Port Phillip.

The program is jointly funded by the Port Phillip Council and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and the program is also supported by Songlines Music Aboriginal Corporation and Music Victoria.

The project is among Year 1 actions in the Port Phillip Council’s recently approved Live Music Action Plan (LMAP), which identified support for career development for First Peoples musicians as a focus area.

First Peoples’ contribution to the musical and creative culture of Port Phillip has been significant. The First Impressions program will continue to support the career advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and help reinforce these important voices in our community.
