More than 6,000 Yemeni electricity customers remain without power for more than 24 hours after widespread outages caused by Friday morning’s wild weather.
Nearly 45,000 Yemeni customers lost power after strong winds caused chaos across the network, including close to 7,000 in Newport and Williamstown and about 8,000 around Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong and Braybrook.
While many homes and businesses have regained power, the pockets of Footscray, West Footscray and Williamstown remain affected Saturday afternoon.
“Due to a major incident affecting our network, we are currently experiencing high call volumes and long delays in our contact center,” Jemena said in a statement.
“We apologize and are working to restore the power supply to customers as soon as possible.”
Affected customers are advised to turn off appliances such as computers and televisions.
