After a “terrible” year, an inner-Melbourne couple has been thinking about retirement and a new house and car after becoming $ 60 million richer overnight.
But more immediately, they plan to go out and eat tonight and enjoy some chocolate and coffee to celebrate it.
The people of South Melbourne were the only winners of the Division 1 Powerball Lottery 1327 on Thursday night.
Their prize is the second-largest lottery in Victoria, behind a Melbourne father who won $ 80 million in August.
They bought their ticket from Market Lotto and News at the South Melbourne Market.
The pair indicated that the unexpected came after a difficult year in the middle of Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdown.
“I found out last night while watching TV with my wife,” said the male half of the victorious Victorian couple.
– We knew right after the draw that we had won. We screamed and cried.
“It was just disbelief. It was amazing. We’ve just been trying to calm down ever since.
“I’m having a great time, we both have. It’s been a very hard year for us, really awful. But this is changing everything.”
He said the couple will enjoy a “beautiful dinner” Friday night, as well as celebrate it with some chocolate, flowers and coffee.
But the couple already have even bigger plans.
“I want to pay off the mortgage and some debt we have,” the man said.
“We are considering retiring, and of course we are helping the children.
‘Landmark’
“And we’ll have some great vacations, both intergovernmental and overseas.
“We will definitely buy a new car and we would love to buy a new house in the end.
“This will make things so much easier. It’s life-changing.”
The winning numbers were 7, 17, 11, 28, 30, 2, 27 and the Powerball number was 11.
