Scuba diver dies after being pulled unconscious out of the water at Kurnell National Park in southern Sydney

A man has died while diving in Kurnell National Park in southern Sydney on Saturday.

Emergency services responded to reports that a diver had been pulled out of the water unconscious near the shores of Inscription Point and Cape Solander just before noon. 12.15.

Four crews and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter, including an emergency physician and an emergency paramedic, were dispatched to the scene.

Other divers performed CPR on the man until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

His body was found by NSW police officers affiliated with the Sutherland Police Area Command with the assistance of the Marine Area Command and PolAir.

Inspector David Matthews of NSW Ambulance praised spectators for their efforts to revive the man.

“It was a very sad scene for everyone involved, our thoughts are with the patient’s friends and family,” he said.

“The bystanders did an incredible job of getting the patient ashore and immediately starting CPR. They were remarkable in devastating circumstances.”

“As we enter the summer months, it is important to understand the dangers of the sea and waterways. It is imperative to have a safety plan in case something goes wrong.”

A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
