The Kingston girl, 10, dies after being hit by a truck outside the school

Kingston Police say a 10-year-old girl has died after being hit by a Chevy Silverado outside her school.

Police responded to the call from the school around 3:40 p.m. Monday, where they reported a serious accident with a student. Officers say the child was hit outside Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School around pickup time and rolled under the car.

The child was treated by Frontenac Paramedics but was taken to hospital after it was determined she had life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, Algonquin and the Lakeshore Catholic District School Board issued a statement announcing she had succumbed to her injuries. In a twitter post, ALCDSB said: “ALCDSB is deeply saddened by the death of a student at Mother Teresa Catholic School. This news is heartbreaking and a huge loss to our community.”

The board also says the mourning team will be present at the school on Tuesday to gather in prayer and support students, staff and members of the local community affected by the tragedy.
